Head of Financial Reporting - HSBC 

Job Description

Role Overview :

Reporting locally to Chief Accounting Officer (Egypt), the role leads Financial Accounting, Local Reporting & Financial Control for HSBC Egypt. To manage and develop financial reporting, ensure compliance with accounting policies and operational/transactional activities and delivery of all financial reporting output within Egypt to ensure the delivery of professional, effective, and responsive financial and external statutory requirements to the country/business areas and other external parties.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collection, consolidation, assurance and submission of complex financial information
  • Preparation and publication of HSBC Egypt’s external financial statements, and related Audit Committee reporting
  • Delivery of certain operational accounting activities, including ownership of IFRS 9 credit processes, fair valuation accounting, and accounting for investments in associates
  • Manage monthly close of the books
  • Risk ownership of all HSBC Egypt Financial Reporting risks
  • Local leadership, including involvement in review & challenge and governance committees (credit, pensions, project oversight etc), supporting and delivering local projects, and supporting the Local CAO in certain risk stewardship responsibilities
  • Whilst leading the above activities, as part of ongoing improvement initiatives, determine the optimal structure of the team and implement any required changes.
  • Manage relationship with external Auditors

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant CPA or ACCA Certified Charted accountant license strongly preferred
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills in both Arabic and English
  • Excellent knowledge and proficiency in Excel and other industry software
  • Recognized relevant professional accountancy qualification is essential
  • Significant accounting and financial reporting experience essential (preferably in a financial service environment)
  • Advanced understanding of the dynamics of the financial statements of a financial services organization
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS essential but awareness of other relevant regulatory issues also important
  • Ability to lead a team of qualified professionals, across jurisdictions and sub functions, particularly in a pressurized
  • and deadline driven environment
  • Ability to manage a complex process within resource and time constraints
  • Ability to deal with and analyze unstructured problems and queries and to question and challenge existing procedures
  • Ability to communicate complex information in a succinct and credible manner, both orally and written, directly with Senior Management
  • Ability to lead, driver and deliver initiatives (including change)
