The Role Responsibilities

The purpose of the role is to

  • Key member of the Country Management Team CMT
  • Contribute to the country business strategy, lead its planning and execution
  • Own the financial performance for the Country.
  • Own the technical accounting, control, tax and regulatory agenda in the country
  • Manage the end to end Finance portfolio for the country
  • Play a key role in influencing and executing the Regional Finance agenda and the Country business agenda
  • Energise and lead a strong country Finance team

Strategy

  • Contribute to the formulation of strategic and medium-term business plans, provide a robust challenge to the businesses and oversee implementation
  • Be a strategic partner to Egypt CEO, Egypt CMT; drive a high performing, sustainable business with effective Balance Sheet Management

Business

  • Provide financial expertise, advice and an independent challenge to the businesses on day-to-day performance issues
  • Provide Finance input into systems development for the businesses
  • Lead the budget and forecast processes for all businesses and support functions
  • Influence the leadership team as both a constructive challenger and positive catalyst for business change

Processes

  • Support the management of the balance sheet and liquidity and interest rate risk through the ALCO process
  • Develop and maintain effective financial information systems to satisfy the reporting needs of local and Group businesses, Group Finance and local regulators
  • Apply Group accounting and financial control policies, standards, procedures and internal control practices in country
  • Deliver the country Target Operating Model and related process and systems improvements

People and Talent

  • Provide strong leadership to the Finance Function in the region managing and developing the skills and careers of individuals in the team
  • Lead through example and build the appropriate culture and values. Set appropriate tone and expectations from their team and work in collaboration with risk and control partners
  • Employ, engage and retain high quality people
  • Responsibility to review team structure/capacity plans
  • Set and monitor job descriptions and objectives for direct reports and provide feedback and rewards in line with their performance against those responsibilities and objectives

Risk Management

  • Manage operational risk of the Finance function through application of Group Financial Control Policy and by serving as Regional Operational Risk Control Owner for Accounting & Financial Control, Tax Management, local Liquidity, and local capital
  • Manage external statutory audit requirements including rationale for accounting positions and analytical and risk reviews

Governance

  • Build a close and effective working relationship with the local regulators
  • Co-ordinate with Regionals and Group Tax and local tax advisors to support the effective management of the Group's tax position and local tax liabilities

Regulatory & Business Conduct

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Lead the Finance function to achieve the outcomes set out in the Bank's Conduct Principles
  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

Our Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified accountant or equivalent with banking experience in a variety of CFO roles in complex Finance Function
  • Experience in working in multi-discipline/ multi-jurisdictional business and across a variety of cultures.
  • Strong business partner who can influence and effectively challenge stakeholders
  • Dynamic leader of teams who role models Bank's values and purposefully develops long term talent within the function.
